3. Walkthrough NET:Zone
3.1 Destination Platform
Upon entering the game, you find yourself in a strange and eerie cyberworld,
containing floating platforms and weird machines docking by them. As you look
around this mysterious environment, you are greeted by the Central Dome
computer, who announces your entry into the Genecys Zone, and requests user
identity authentication.
· Click on the flashing connector.
The authentication process is run. You are henceforth identified by the computer
as Zel Winters, Maintenance Engineer. The computer will ask you to check your
mail for your daily task schedule.
· Click on the 'mail' function of your P.D.A.
There you will find the daily task schedule as well as an email message from
your father's hacker pal 'J.P.', telling you he has found a back door to the
main computer and hacked analysis software, able to be used throughout the
Genecys Zone.
3.2 Zeppelin Platform
· Click onto the Zeppelin platform (located to the extreme right of your
screen)
When this process is complete, locate the screen nearest to you displaying the
CYCORP logo. Click the play button and a corporate advertisement for CYCORP will
run. Towards the end of this advertisement, a recorded message made by Zel
Winters, will interrupt the advertisement and you will hear your father explain
in more detail, the trouble he and global computer networks are in, and how you
must help. This message will be stored as a recording in your P.D.A.
Zel has included a recording taken of his enemy Walter Sayle, at a meeting
with his creations, The Disciples. This recording reveals his plans, and
explains that he has taken the databank of Zel Winters and placed it under the
guard of The Disciples. Zel tells you that your mission is to reconstruct him as
an artificial life form, so that he can help you defeat Walter Sayle. First, you
must locate the databank and free it from The Disciples' control. This second
recording will also be stored in your P.D.A..
On the Zeppelin Platform there are 2 interfaces, symbolized by flashing spheres:
One is by the Zeppelin vehicle, and one is located in the center of the
platform.
· Click on the GCN (Global Communications Network) interface located in the
center of the Platform.
You will be asked to enter a code.
· Enter D E A D
(As per J.P.'s email message).You will access the GCN Site.
· Click on the J.P. Site
You will receive a message from J.P. telling you to click on the search icon.
· Click on the search icon.
The Diagnostic Module Enhancer will be downloaded to your P.D.A. Combine the
Diagnostic Module (already used by you as the 'maintenance engineer'), with the
Enhancer, by dragging one icon and placing it on top of the other. The E.D.M.
will be stored in your inventory. The E.D.M. is a testing software which gives
you the ability to operate vehicles in the Genecys Zone.
· Exit site and the GCN screen will appear.
· Press the logoff button
3.3 The Zeppelin
· Connect to the Zeppelin vehicle by clicking on the Zeppelin interface
· Press the inventory button and select the E.D.M
· Run the E.D.M and press 'begin'.
· When the door is open, select 'break'
· Press 'skip' and begin next check
· When docking mechanism is released, select 'break'
· Press 'skip' and begin next check
· When engine is operated, select 'break'
· Close the P.D.A.
· Enter the Zeppelin, by clicking on the door
In the front of the vehicle, the Zeppelin will display its destination icon
(flashing sphere)
· Click on the destination icon
The computer will announce that the Zeppelin is preparing to travel to the
Design Facility
· Click on the icon to confirm the destination
Zeppelin travels to the Design Facility. (NB. You can skip the FMV sequences by
pressing the space bar, or pressing the left mouse button).
3.4 The Design Facility: Central Hub
· Exit the Zeppelin
· Find the entrance to the Central Hub
· Click on the door and enter
You arrive at the central hub of the Design Facility, and come across The
Disciples guarding the pyramid underneath Zel Winters' databank.
· Walk around the edge of the room until you find the 'Auricle' speaker
· Connect to it and bring up the inventory
· Select the icon representing the recording of Walter Sayle's speech to The
Disciples.
· Run it.
The recording will play over the Auricle. The Disciples will flock to the base
of the stairs, believing Walter Sayle is once again giving them orders. When
they hear him say "now leave" they will believe this is a direct order, and
vacate the Central Hub, leaving Zel's databank unguarded. The databank will be
downloaded to your P.D.A.
3.5 The Design Facility: Laboratory
· Walk around the edge of the room until you find the bridge.
· Extend the bridge by clicking the button near it.
· Walk across the bridge to the other side of the pyramid
· Locate the elevator door and click on the button.
You will be taken down to the Design Laboratory, where you will
find a room containing terminals and overhead units.
· Locate the overhead unit next to terminal DL-01 and click on the button
· Drag the radix capsules (basic unit of CY-11 neural network) into your
inventory.
· Connect to terminal DL-01 or DL-02
It will indicate that there is a terminal malfunction.
· Click on 'inventory' and then click on E.D.M.
· Run E.D.M.
Terminal is diagnosed.
· Click 'Fail'
'Maintenance Procedure' is automatically activated.
Screen will split with faulty components of the terminal displayed in the upper
screen.
· Drag functioning components (not marked by 'X') to the lower screen.
· Connect to other functioning terminal (either Dl-01 or DL-02, depending on
previous choice)
· Repeat the above procedure.
· Fix one terminal by combining the functioning components of the second
terminal with the first. This is done by dragging good components from the lower
screen and combining them with the faulty components in the upper screen.
(NB: You may need to use the scroll button in the inventory in order to access
some items).
· Press 'reset' button.
· Choose one of the radix capsules in your inventory and press 'run'.
The radix will transform into a cygote.
· Connect to the Holographic Simulation Pod (located in the center of the
Lab)
You will be asked to choose a cygote for simulation.
· Select a cygote from your inventory and press 'run'.
Process will fail due to the lack of a 'lexicon' component (lexicon is part of
the CY-11's memory module, and has been trapped within another facility system
due to recent malfunctions within the Genecys Zone).
3.6 The Communication Tower of the Manufacturing Facility
· Return via the elevator to the Central Hub of the Design Facility
· Enter the Atlantis (submarine) docking in the center of the Hub
· Click on the destination icon to the Manufacturing Facility
· Exit the Atlantis
· Find the exit from the dock.
· Press the button near the door.
When you first press the button, a hologram of Walter Sayle will appear. When
this concludes, press the button again, and a puzzle will appear. This puzzle is
a maze and you must program the maze in order to pass through it successfully.
· Click on the Map in the inventory.
The map shows the route through the maze. By plotting the various junctions of
the route in the code (eg. t-junction, right turn etc) you will enter the
correct code.
· Enter the following code: and press 'begin'.
Travel through the maze using the map, and the above turns, as a guide.
You will arrive at the ladder leading to the Communication Tower of the
Manufacturing Facility. You will find a room with terminals similar to the
Design Facility. Terminals read 'unable to complete transfer operation...'
· Connect to a terminal, and run the E.D.M.
· Press 'fail'
· Drag faulty component to lower screen
· Separate the lexicon from the system by pressing 'split' .
· Take empty memory bank and drag it to the upper screen
· Press 'reset'
Message on terminal will indicate that a 'terminal system upgrade' is needed to
continue the construction process and that the request for an upgrade has been
sent to the CYCORP site at the GCN.
3.7 CYCORP Site
· Go down the ladder in the Communication Tower
· Using the map, return through the maze to the dock
· Take the Atlantis to the Design Facility
· Activate the bridge and go to the exit on the other side.
· Exit the Central Hub area
· Once outside, find the Zeppelin and take it to the Central Dome
· When you have docked at the Central Dome, exit and click on the GCN
Interface located at the center of the Platform.
· Access the GCN Site, and then try to click on the CYCORP Site (to the
right of the J.P. Site)
At the CYCORP Site there is a virus which blocks your access. You must eliminate
the virus.
· Connect to the System Protection Unit by clicking on the flashing
connector.
· Click on the virus
An anti-virus system will appear and you must work out the anti-virus
solution. In this puzzle, the aim is to achieve a neutral white string of
genetic blocks. Red + Green + Blue = White.
· Take the Yellow and Blue blocks and place them on the far left of the
anti-virus bar.
· Take the string of Green, Purple and Red blocks and place the Green block
on top of the blue block.
· Take the last string of three and place the blue block over the red.
· Finally, take the string of four and place it on the furthermost right
section of the bar.
This will result in a white anti-virus solution. Click on the send button
to activate the anti-virus.
· Click on the CYCORP Site.
· Click on icon to download Terminal System Upgrade.
Terminal System Upgrade is downloaded to your P.D.A.
· Exit Site and Logoff.
3.8 Return to the Design Facility
· Use the Zeppelin to travel to the Design Facility (to download the lexicon
unit)
Now you can use the 'automatic vehicle access' function for all vehicles.
· Arrive at the Central Hub and take the elevator down to the Lab.
· Connect to a functioning terminal.
· Run the E.D.M. and press 'fail'
· Drag the empty memory bank into the inventory and combine with the
lexicon.
· Return the loaded memory bank into the maintenance sector (upper screen).
· Press 'reset'
· Run the radix and it will be encoded as a cygote (next stage of radix
development)
NB: You will not notice a difference in this new version of the Cygote,
which has been encoded with the lexicon component.
· Run cygote in the Holographic Simulation Pod as before.
The process will now be successful.
You will receive a message telling you to return to the Communication
Tower of the Manufacturing Facility (to implement the Terminal System Upgrade)
3.9 Return the Communication Tower
· Using the Atlantis, return to the Communication Tower
· Connect to a terminal and run the E.D.M.
· Press 'fail'.
· Drag Upgraded Terminal System icon to maintenance sector (upper screen).
· Press 'reset'
Message will indicate that cygote has been received successfully from the Design
Facility and has been sent to the Manufacturing Facility's Construction
Laboratory.
3.9.i The Construction Laboratory of the Manufacturing Facility
· Exit the Communication Tower using the ladder.
· At the bottom of the ladder, proceed through the maze (to the right of the
ladder).
· Use one of the two stairways to arrive at the Construction Laboratory.
You arrive at the Construction Laboratory where you find yourself in what is
clearly the lab where CY-11's are produced. There are more terminals and a
'frankenstein-like' slab in the center of the room.
· Explore the Lab until you find the circular gray platform.
· Locate the green connector above it and click on it
(NB: It is visible only from one position). There will be a message that
the process cannot continue due to the fact that a CY-11 has been detected
within the system awaiting extermination at the Elimination Facility.
A hologram of Walter Sayle will appear warning that he has rigged the
system so that the Spooks are guarding the Vulcan platform in the Central Dome,
blocking access to the Elimination Facility. At this point you must go to the
Elimination Facility and destroy the existing CY-11:
3.9.ii Spook Control Panel - Zeppelin Platform
· Travel to the Central Dome using the Atlantis.
· When you arrive at the Central Dome, there will be an announcement that
entry to the Elimination Facility has been blocked.
As per Walter's hologram.
· Connect to the Zeppelin Interface and run EDM. Press 'fail' at the end of
the check.
One of the Spooks will investigate the system failure as per its mission task.
While the Spook is 'occupied', you will have a small amount of time to access
the Spook Control Panel located on the Zeppelin Platform.
· Connect to the Spook Control Platform.
A split screen will appear on your P.D.A., and in the upper section you will
find a display of all Spook missions.
· Click on the arrows in the upper screen until you bring up the mission
outline of Spook I15 (red icon).
· Drag the red icon into the inventory.
· Click on the arrow in the upper screen until bring up the mission outline
of Spook G12 (guard).
· Override its mission by dragging the I15 icon from the inventory into the
upper screen and place it on top of the G12 icon.
The Spook will stop guarding the Vulcan platform, making it accessible to you.
· Go to the Vulcan Platform and activate the Vulcan.
3.9.iii The Elimination Facility
· Travel to the Elimination Facility
· Exit the Vulcan
· Open the door in front of you and walk through the tunnel until you come
to the Elimination Facility.
You will be standing in the middle of the walkway. After a few moments, 2 Spikes
will appear on either side of you, blocking your path.
· Connect to the Spike on your right hand side by clicking on its flashing
light.
· Drag the blue SP14 icon into your inventory.
· Override the mission of the Spike by dragging the I15 Spook mission (red)
icon to the upper screen etc.
This will result in 'overloading' the Spook who will become unstable and 'melt'.
· Turn immediately to the Spike on your left side, and connect to it by
clicking on its flashing light.
· Override its mission using the SP14 blue icon.
This Spike will be given the mission of SP14 and go over to the other side
of the walkway. When it comes into contact with the unstable SP14 Spike, it too
will become unstable and 'melt'. You are now free to eliminate the CY-11.
· Move to the left until you find the blue crystal button.
· Click on it.
The drawbridge will open and the CY-11 will make its way to the 'death beam'.
· Walk to the end of the other side of the walkway.
· Activate the chair by pressing the button near it.
After you do this, you will find yourself sitting in the chair facing the abyss.
· Click on the 'death beam' button and exterminate the CY-11.
· Go to the Vulcan and return to the Central Dome.
3.9.iv The Testing Facility
· Take the Grommet to the Testing Facility.
· Find the entrance to the Testing Facility and click the button near it.
You will find yourself in 'Testing Room #1' filled with strange cylindrical
pillars and twinkling stars. Your aim here is to locate the monolith which is a
gateway leading to the next test. It is a version of the 'warm/cold' idea where
the stars flash faster as you approach the monolith.
· When you find the monolith, click on it.
There will be an announcement telling you that you have successfully passed the
first test, and that you should continue with Test #2. This test will begin with
a number of different colors flashing in the sky in a specific sequence. The aim
here is to follow the color sequence by clicking on the color segments
surrounding you.
· Click on the different color segments around you in exactly the same
sequence as the colors flashing in the sky.
When you follow the correct sequence of colors, another monolith will appear.
· Click on it and you will find yourself at Test #3.
· Walk until you come to a point directly opposite the monitor.
This test involves an interactive movie narrated by a CY-11 guide who will
prompt you to answer questions about the movie. Your answers will determine the
plot and continuity of the story. The 'solution' is B,B,B. After completing this
test, you will find yourself in Testing Room #4. You will be told to wait and
not to touch anything.
· Wait between 1-2 minutes before disregarding the announcement.
During this time, you may walk around the room freely, without touching
anything. You will find a desk and a strange ornament on the desk. On the other
side of the table you will find a clock indicating how long you have waited.
· Walk to the desk and click on the ornament.
· Walk to the other side of the desk (clock side) and click on the red
button.
A monitor will appear on the desk. On the screen you will see two icons.
· Drag the icons into your inventory.
These icons are encrypted. In order to decode them you must go to the Decoding
Site at the GCN.
· Take the Grommet to the Central Dome.
3.9.v The Decoding Site
· Access the GCN and try to connect to the Decoding Site (key icon).
You will not be able to access the Decoding Site due to the presence of a virus.
You must eliminate the virus.
· Connect to the System Protection Unit by clicking on the flashing
connector.
· Click on the virus
An anti-virus system will appear and you must work out the anti-virus
solution. In this puzzle, the aim is to achieve a neutral white string of
genetic blocks. Red + Green + Blue = White.
· Take the string of 'green, magenta and red' blocks and place it to the
far left of the anti-virus bar.
· Take the string of 'blue, red and red' blocks and place the blue block on
top of the red block (of the first string).
· Flip the string of four blocks to get 'green, light blue, magenta and
green'.
Flip by clicking on the string and pressing the arrow button.
· Place the green block of this string on top of the red block of the 'blue,
red, red' string.
· Flip the string of two (from 'light blue, red' to 'red, light blue').
· Place this string on the far right of the anti-virus bar.
This will give you the correct anti-virus formula to eliminate the virus.
· Click on the 'send' button to activate the anti-virus.
· When you have eliminated the virus, connect to the Decoding Site.
A CY-11 will welcome you to the site, and will ask you to load the encrypted
data.
· Drag one of the encrypted icons from your inventory and place it in the
upper screen.
The decoding process will take place and your icon will be decoded.
· Repeat this process with the second icon.
One icon is a Grommet with a lock, and the second icon is a puzzle piece with a
lock.
When you decode the first icon, you will receive an icon of a Grommet without
the lock, signifying a second Course Option (to the Central Analysis Chamber).
When you decode the second icon, in place of an icon, you will receive mail
informing you that your map of the Testing Facility has been updated to include
the Central Analysis Chamber.
· Exit the GCN
· Return to the Testing Facility.
3.9.vi The Central Analysis Chamber
· When you arrive at the Testing Facility, do not leave the Grommet.
· Whilst in the Grommet, open your inventory and 'run' the Grommet icon.
There will be an announcement that you have activated the second course option,
and you will then find yourself in the Central Analysis Chamber, which the
Grommet has penetrated.
· Walk around the Central Analysis Chamber computer in the center of the
room, until you find a green connector (the Central Analysis Interface).
· Connect to the Interface.
· You will receive your test profile.
If you completed the tests correctly, every test category should be 'normal'. If
the tests were not completed correctly and a category appears as either 'high'
or 'low', you may repeat the relevant test to improve your result.
Spatial Intelligence = Test 1
Power of Deduction = Test 2
Judgment and Courage = Test 3
Recognition of Authority & Curiosity = Test 4
You can access each of the Test Rooms through the doorways around the
circumference of the Central Analysis Chamber.
(If you need to do tests again, do so, then connect to the Central Analysis
Interface.)
· Press the 'Save parameters' button.
· Enter the Grommet and return to the Central Dome.
3.9.vii The Construction Laboratory - Creating the CY-11
· Take the Atlantis to the Manufacturing Facility.
· Walk through the maze to the Construction Laboratory.
· Explore the Lab until you find the circular gray platform.
· Locate the green connector above it and click on it
(NB: It is visible only from one position).
· Press the 'Automatic Adjust' button and drag the Parameter icon to the
upper screen.
· Press 'Dispatch Cygote' button.
The Cygote will be sent to the Testing Facility and go through the testing
procedures. The results will be displayed. If your parameters were correct, you
will receive a message that the Cygote successfully passed the regulation
testing procedure.
· Find the button near the 'slab', which is only accessible from one
position.
· Click on it.
The first time you click on it, you will activate Walter's warning about the
release of the Cyberworm.
· Clicking on it again will activate the creation process of the CY-11.
· Drag the CY-11 icon to your inventory and merge it with the icon of Zel's
databank.
This will create the CY-11 version of Zel Winters, who will then appear and
speak to you about what you must now do: 1) Create another Cyberworm and 2) Feed
it off the Core Computer.
3.9.viii Building the Cyberworm
If you sent more than one Cygote to the Manufacturing Facility you may skip the
following section at the Design Facility.
· [Go back to the Design Facility
· Run another Radix on the operational terminal.
You will create a Cygote.
· Go to the Holographic Simulation Pod and run the Cygote
· Return to the Manufacturing Facility and enter the Construction
Laboratory.]
· Locate and click on the green connector above the gray platform.
· Dispatch the Cygote to the Testing Facility.
Repeat process with previous cygote .
· Run the memory of Walter creating the Cyberworm.
Now that Zel has been rebuilt, all of Zel's memories and recordings are fully
recovered, and missing details are now restored.
· Watch memory and note which terminal Walter used (ML03) and what his code
was (AWED).
· Go to the terminal and enter the code.
You will find a blueprint of the Cyberworm.
· Drag the blueprint icon into your inventory.
· Go to the 'slab' and click on the button.
You will activate the creation process of another CY-11.
· Take CY-11 icon and merge it with the Cyberworm Blueprint.
This will create the Cyberworm Larva - the first stage of the creation of the
Cyberworm.
· Go to The Core.
3.9.ix Getting to The Core
· Return to the Central Dome.
· Find the hatch located on the Vulcan Platform.
· Click on the connector and enter the code given to you by Zel (WAFE)
· Click on the handle of the hatch which changes the control of the
Cabletron from automatic to manual override.
You will hear an announcement confirming this procedure.
· Go to the Cabletron Platform located near the Grommet Platform.
· Click on the Cabletron Connector.
· Press 'Access' and travel to The Core.
3.9.x The Core
· Locate the ladder in the center of The Core.
· Click on it to ascend the ladder.
You will hear an announcement that you have reached different levels within The
Core.
· Continue to ascend the ladder until you have reached Level Three.
You will be greeted by The Core Computer.
· Click on the Connector
· Run the Cyberworm Larva.
At this point, the Cyberworm will feed off The Core system, the Cyberworm will
be created and the final sequence of the game will be triggered
