Space Quest 1-The Sarien Encounter (VGA) Walkthrough
Roger is rudely awakened from his comfy janitorial closet by the noisy klaxon of the Arcada's security alert system. It seems while you were napping, the ship was overun with the ruthless Sariens, a reptilian race bent on galactic conquest!
After Roger exits the closet, you will be standing in the hallways of the Arcada. If, at any time, you hear footsteps, be sure to hightail off the screen! Walk three screens left to find the corpse of one of Roger's crewmates, Jerry. Search the body to find a keycard. Head two screens right to enter the computer library and after a few seconds, an injured scientist will enter the room. After he falls, click the HAND icon on him to help him. He'll mutter a few phrases (such as asteroids, astral bodies, binary systems, etc.). The phrase should be cross referenced with the Arcada Planetary Reference Library Catalog as the copy protection for the game. Sit down at the computer and enter the code the scientist gave you. The robot should get a cartridge for you. Take it and exit to the left. When you see a turbolift, take it down to the level below. There will be an open doorway to the right of the lift. Enter it to discover the Star Generator gone. Take the widget sitting on the base of the Star Generator. Exit the room and walk two screens right and you should discover a turbolift with a black and yellow door. Take it to the level below. Go right to a room with a gaint joystick. You'll probably hear foot steps about now and if so, hide behind the gaint mouse along the rear wall of the room. When the Sariens leave, go right again and use the panel in the top right-hand corner of the screen to open the bay doors. Then, insert the keycard into the slot to open the door. You'll find yourself in the airlock of the Arcada. Open the drawer and take the translating gadget. Open the closet and put on the space suit then open the airlock and head out to the pod being careful not to fall off the edge. Get in the pod and buckle your seatbelt, then press the power button (on the far right) located on the control panel above Roger's head. Pull on the throttle (the joystick in front of you) and rocket off just as the Arcada blows to bits! Then, press the auto-nav button (on the far left) and you'll be on your way to Kerona!
After you landed, take off your seatbelt andexit the craft. Reach back into the pod to take the survival kit. Also, be sure to take the piece of glass infront of the ship. Walk East and then walk one screen south and you should see some pinkish-purple plants. Take a piece of the plant. Around now, a Sarien Spider-Droid should be landing on the planet, sent to destroy you. If you make contact with it, it will explode taking you with it. Go north and east twice then head south. There should be a cave. Head south again. You should see a large bone structure. Walk up it following it until you fall into a underground cave. Once you've landed, take a piece of the rock and head to the left. Use the purple plant on the monsters under the grate. Then cross the grate, walking along the upper part near the wall. Put the rock on the geyser on the other side in order to open a secret door. Go up and then to the left. Use the piece of glass to refract the laser and head up through, up and to the right. Up ahead, you will be facing a cieling dripping with acid. To overcome this, walk to the very bottom of the ledge of where the acid is dripping and cross it. You should be able to get past the acid without being touched. After getting through the acid, enter your inventory and click the HAND icon on the translating gadget to turn it on. Start walking to the right until you come to a dark room with an alien's head hovering above you explainng that your mission is to kill the Orat. Leave the room and leave the way you came. Head back down the path to the bottom, then head north. You'll find yourself on the screen with the cave. This is the Orat's lair. Lure the Spider-Droid into following you into the cave. Click the HAND icon the rocks to hide behind them. When the Spider-Droid walks in, it will make contact with the Orat, destroying them both. Take the piece of Orat and return up the path and back to the underground cave. Drop the piece of Orat infront of the Alien as proof for killing the Orat. He will grant you access to the inner complex. Go to the computer and insert the cartridge you got from the Arcada. Be sure to take note of the deactivation code for the Star Generator. Once your done, take the cartridge and enter the skimmer. While during the sequence, try to avoid as many rocks as possible!
Ulence Flats:
When you exit the ship, use the HAND icon to take the keys. A man will try to purchase the skimmer, refuse the offer for the time being. Enter the bar and return outside, the man will return and offer you money, a jetpack, and coupons for Droids-B-Us and the bar. Accept his offer this time. Enter the bar and start ordering and drinking Keronion Ales. When Roger starts to get tipsy, he'll overhear a person talking about his enounter with the Deltaur. When tells the sector, be sure to take note. Go over to the slot machine and use the widget you got from the Arcada, it will easily let you win the amount of money you need, play until you break the bank. Head north and east to Droids B Us. Buy the NAV-201 DROID; all others will malfunction. Head to Tiny's Used Ships. Buy the ship on the upper screen of the lot, all others are slightly defective. Climb the ladder and the droid will automatically follow. Enter the navigational code (part of the copy protection) and you'll be on your way to the Deltaur!
When you arrive, your droid will ask if you wish to leave, say "No". The droid will leave, meeting you later. Use your jetpack, fly toward the airlock and push the button on the left side to enter. Hide to the right side of the door, waiting for the cleaning droid to come through. While the door is still open, slip out into the inner protons of the ship. You'll find yourself in a room with a box in the middle. Use the HAND icon to move the box under the vent. Use the knife from the survival kit to open it. Enter the airducks and head up the ladder to the next screen. Head to the vent on the right and use the HAND icon to open it and exit. You should be in the Sarien landry room. Enter the dryer and a Sarien will enter and dry his suit (and Roger). In the jumble, Roger will end in the Sarien uniform. Take the identification card from the jumble of clothes. Head through the door at the bottom of the screen and head up the elevator to the left. Go right until you find another elevator and head up again. Continue right and you'll find yourself in the Deltaur's armory. Show your ID card and while he's gone use the HAND icon to take the grenade from the counter. When he returns, take the pulseray and leave. Head to the screen overlooking the Star Generator and position yourself above the guard and drop the grenade. Head to the left until you reach the elevator. At this point Roger will stumble and lose his helmet. If you encounter any Sariens, use the pulseray to make short work of them. After you get down the elevator, head to the right until you reach the Star Generator. Search the guard and take his remote control. Use the control to turn off the force field surrounding the Star Generator. Click on the generator's screen and put in the code from the cartridge you read back on Kerona. Once done, exit the room and go back down the elevator that originally brought to the floor, shooting any guards that get in the way. Enter the door to the right after taking the elevator down and you will find yourself in the escape pod bay. Enter the pod get out of there!
